Body of woman found in Pennsylvania sinkhole after 4-day search, officials confirm
So, when they are done, they just let the mine deteriorate until people walking in their yards just drop off the face of the earth to their demise
This isn't right.

@paul That begs a question, how would you stabilize such a problem? I’m not saying it is possible/impossible, I just don’t know how it would be done.
@fuzzface I've seen where they blow concrete type materials with mesh bits to bind it together on the roof of the mines and then have some kind of support. I don't know what it's called but it helps keep it from deteriorating from just normal rain and the dirt washing it away and creating voids.
@paul OK. That sounds reasonable. So, will they do it? Time will tell. I realize Centralia is not the same type of issue, but it should have been a wake-up call that should still be heeded.
@fuzzface I don't think they're doing it and I don't think it's that commonplace so the answer is no. These big companies when they're done with mines will sell or at lease the mines to other companies who then have to take on the responsibility but they don't have the resources and this is how the big mine companies get out of the responsibility. my uncle in Harlan County Kentucky got into a mess like this. He took over a mine from a big company and extracted some coal but could not keep up with what was required that the original mine company should have been required to do. The burden fell on him, then eventually the government.
